Rice County Historical Society

In 1926, a diverse group of people from all around Rice County gathered to form a new, more comprehensive historical preservation society to carry on the work of Rice County’s Old Settlers’ Association whose membership was waning.  By the end of the year, the Rice County Historical Society (RCHS) was founded. 

Early RCHS Annual Meetings and programs featured local researchers presenting papers on varied topics ranging from the history of pioneer achievement, to agriculture, industry, and educational institutions of the county.  RCHS’s contribution to the Northfield History Collaborate includes the manuscripts of those early papers as well as rare artifacts collected over the last nine decades.

Today, Rice County Historical Society’s holdings include the Alexander Faribault House, a one room school, log cabin, historic church, Harvest and Heritage Halls, and the Museum of History.  The collection includes more than 25,000 negatives and photographic images, over 16,000 artifacts, and more than 450 linear feet of archival material.
